Akina crowned Champions of the Bay

As a sign of things to come, Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong scored Akina's first 13 points of the game. However, the first quarter was an extremely competitive affair thanks to 9 first quarter points apiece from Nick Agnew & Ravi Mani. Akina opened the second quarter with a Graham Takie three pointer but Victory Royale kept the match to'ing and fro'ing with Joshua Anderson clocking up 10 first half points along with Ravi Mani adding 7 more to bring his total to 16 by the half.

More sharp shooting from Akina's Smiler-Ah Kiong & Devante Miller opened up an 8 point lead during the third quarter, that briefly hit double digits. Agnew, Anderson & Mani continued to provide resistance for Victory Royale however foul trouble rocked Victory Royale as Akina took routine trips to the free throw line during the third quarter. With 4 minutes remaining in the third Victory Royale star Ravi Mani picked up his fourth foul and then picked up his fifth on the three-quarter time buzzer which cosigned him to the bench for the rest of the match as his side entered the fourth quarter with a 66-78 deficit.

Victory Royale's Dan Evans came out firing in fourth with an early and-one before Anderson hit threes on back-to-back possessions. Unfortuantely, without the scoring prowess of Mani to fuel them Victory Royale succumed to Akina, losing the fourth quarter by 20 as Akina kept up their offensive pace that they started the game with. Akina came out victors 113-81 in the end to be crowned the Division 1 Champions of the Fusion Physio Hawke's Bay Summer League for 2018/19.
