Zero Tolerance Policy


 

Effective immediately, the following policy and procedure will take effect at all games which will be put in place to covers all basketball games and competitions played within Hawkes Bay

  1. There will be a zero-tolerance policy towards any inappropriate or abusive behaviour from team members (which includes team benches) towards game referees.
  2. Any team official (coach, assistant coach, manager or team staff member) who feels the necessity to

 

A – Question or challenge the rulings of the referees

B – Berate or abuse referees

C – Display conduct which is inappropriate in a junior sporting environment

 

Should be expected to be disqualified from the game in question and the remainder of the day.   be required to leave the court area.  This disqualification may be issued by the Floor Controller, Referee Supervisor or any official representing Basketball Hawkes Bay.  Whether or not technical fouls have been called against any team official or not during the game will have no bearing on the decision to disqualify any team official under this policy.

No warnings need to be given in the event of the above becoming necessary and failure to heed the disqualification will results in the team of the disqualified , officially forfeiting the game in question.

If a team official is disqualified during the course of any competitions held within Hawkes Bay that official will be suspended for the remainder of the competition.  Any official disqualified during any competition will serve a one match stand down from all venues across Hawkes Bay.

(any further disqualification will be dealt with in line with the FIBA rules, and on a separate matter)

 

Reporting Players / Coaches

 

For any person that is ejected, a report needs to be completed and submitted to both BOA and BBHB within 24 hours of the end of the game.  This can be completed by any staff involve in the incident/ejection of the person (e.g. Referee, Floor Controller, Referee Supervisor, BBHB Staff)

 

Parents and Spectators policy

Basketball Hawkes Bay – Has a zero-tolerance policy for Parents and Spectators

To ensure a safe and enjoyable playing environment for all players and participants, Basketball Hawkes Bay have in place a Zero Tolerance Policy for all inappropriate behaviour for Parents and Spectators.

This policy will supplement the current policy applied to coaches and team officials.

The policy will ensure that:

  1. There will be a zero-tolerance shown towards any inappropriate or abusive behaviour from parents and spectators.
  2. Any parent/guardian and/or spectator who feels necessity to

A – Question or challenge the rulings of the referees

B – Berate or abuse referees

C – Berate or abuse players

D – Berate or abuse other parents or spectators

E – Display conduct which is inappropriate in a sporting environment

 

WILL BE AKSED TO LEAVE THE VENUE IMMEDIATELY.

 

Failure to leave when requested will result in BBHB/ BOA representative taking appropriate action to safeguard the safety of players, spectators and parents.

 

NO WARNINGS NEED TO BE GIVEN IN THE EVENT OF THE ABOVE ACTION BECOMING NECESSARY.

 

A parent/spectator who has been requested to leave an event may be suspended directly or required to attend a hearing .  It should be noted that any repeated inappropriate behaviour by a parent may have an impact on the playing future of their child.

All spectators and parents have to accept responsibility for their behaviour.

Any appeals against disqualification under this policy should immediately be directed to the General.manager@hawkesbay.basketball.

 

SOCIAL MEDIA

 

Basketball Hawkes Bay - Has a zero-tolerance policy on Social Media Abuse

There will be zero tolerance policy towards any inappropriate abusive behaviour directed towards/at referees via online social media apps Facebook/Instagram and others.

No warnings will need to be given in the event of the above becoming necessary.

Failure to recognise this policy will result in BOTH the individual (Supporter/Player/Parent/Coach) been served a 6 week ban from all basketball, and the team that representative belongs to disqualified until a hearing is conducted by BBHB.

Videoing of Referees – All teams, and coaches are required to gain permission from BBHB to film any basketball games – If any team requires footage from the venue , this must be submitted to generalmanager@basketball.hawkesbay within 24 hours of the game starting.

The only videoing of games will be done by BBHB/BOA  which will be used for coaching and development sessions

 

 

 

Attention – Club and School Coordinators

 

This action has become necessary due to the reported instances of inappropriate and abusive behaviour at events conducted by or on behalf of Basketball Hawkes Bay and our desire to nurture a safe competitive environment for all participants.

BBHB implores any parents or spectators who fell that they cannot refrain from the above behaviour not to attend.

Parents /Spectators/Organisations who would like to offer feedback or request clarification on officiating issues should direct their feedback through their coach/organisation.

This policy is not aimed at stifling or diminishing healthy supportive cheering or the ability of all spectator’s and parents to enjoy the spectacle of basketball within Hawkes Bay
